Ensuring Every Parent Knows Where to Turn — and What to Expect

When families struggle to get clear answers from the school system, everything becomes harder: enrollment, transportation, scheduling, discipline, special education, and everyday questions about their child’s experience. Good communication is not just courtesy, it directly impacts student success.

As a board member, I will advocate for policies that strengthen communication systems, ensure families have reliable points of contact, and promote a district culture where parents don’t feel lost in the maze.

Why Communication Matters

For many parents, navigating BCSD can feel overwhelming. Different departments handle different pieces, processes aren’t always clear, and families often bounce between offices trying to find the right person to help.

This isn’t the fault of any one person — it’s a system issue. And systems can be improved.

Clear, consistent communication builds trust, reduces frustration, and helps parents become true partners in their child’s education.

What I Will Advocate For

1. A Defined Point of Contact for Every Family

Parents should never wonder, “Who do I call?”
I will support policies encouraging the district to designate a clear district-level point of contact for new families and anyone struggling to navigate the system. This role doesn’t replace schools — it supports them by helping families who need guidance or who are hitting dead ends.

When a parent doesn’t know where to start, they deserve someone who does.

2. A Modern, Trackable Communication Process

Questions and concerns should not fall through the cracks.
I will advocate for a policy framework that encourages the district to use modern case-management or ticketing systems that:

  • Track inquiries and ensure someone takes responsibility
  • Provide confirmation and follow-up for families
  • Reduce duplicate efforts and lost messages
  • Give the district better data on recurring issues
  • Improve consistency across schools and departments

Systems like this are already used successfully in local governments, nonprofits, and businesses. They help people feel heard — and help organizations respond effectively.

3. A Better Onboarding Experience for New Families

Starting school — or joining from another district — can be intimidating.
I will support efforts to create a consistent district-level orientation experience for new parents and students, whether integrated into existing events like Meet Me at the Mall or delivered in other accessible ways.

A good start sets the tone for years to come.

4. Clear, Accessible Information for All

Communication should meet families where they are — not require them to hunt through multiple systems. I will advocate for policies that encourage the district to provide information that is:

  • Easy to locate
  • Easy to understand
  • Centrally organized
  • Available in multiple languages when possible
  • Designed with real-world parent needs in mind

Clear information benefits everyone — families, teachers, and support staff alike.

What This Is Not

This is not about bypassing principals or dictating operational workflow.
It is about setting policy expectations that communication must be reliable, timely, and accountable, and ensuring the superintendent has the support needed to meet those expectations.

Board members don’t run day-to-day communication systems, but we do set the standard for what families should be able to count on.

My Commitment

If elected, I will consistently advocate for:

  • Stronger structures that prevent parents from being passed around
  • Clear guidance for families at every step
  • Systems that track issues instead of losing them
  • A culture of responsiveness across the district
  • Continuous review of communication challenges and areas for improvement

Parents should feel supported — not overwhelmed.

The Bottom Line

Families deserve a school district that listens, responds, and communicates with clarity and respect.
When communication works well, everything else becomes easier: student achievement, attendance, discipline, partnerships, and trust.

By prioritizing clear and consistent communication, we can strengthen the relationship between BCSD and every family it serves.
